Adding trees to your property will increase your home value by providing shaded areas and greenery to your landscaping. They not only improve the visual aspect of your property, trees can also grow to provide shade to your house to lower your cooling bills during the summer months. To get a jump on the growing process, give your trees the best start by planting them at the right time.

The Brookings area is located in Zone 4 of the United States Department of Agriculture's Plant Hardiness Zone Map. This map is generally used to determine ideal locations for certain plants and trees. It is based…

Every year, I encourage people to line up at the pumps and let me fill their tanks with gas. I'll even wash their windows and run their payments in for them. I don't do this just because I'm a nice guy - but, of course, I am a nice guy. But really, I do this for a cause. Did I mention there are prizes? I'll get to those in a little bit, but first...

The 7th Annual Gas Out Cancer event took place on Saturday, August 30th, between 5-7 pm. That day, I - along with other great people and volunteers - ran around pumping gas for the fine citizens of Brookings and anyone else who brings their vehicle to Schoon's Pump 'N Pak on 2103 Main Street South in Brookings. Gas was 21 cents off per gallon for the customers. My great sponsors helped me donate that…

The 1st annual Lynn Mennis Memorial Beanbag tournament seemed to be a success.  We are still waiting on numbers, but there were over 25 registered teams for the bean bag tournament.  1st place winners walked home with $300 and a set of the specially designed boards by Good Vinyl Graphics in Brookings.

The Brookings Home Team even sponsored a board and was part of the silent auction won by Lynn's dad, Darrell.

There was a free will lunch of pulled pork sandwiches and chips provided by Justin Odegaard, the Home Builders local president and Justin Froiland from Fairway Mortgage.  They even had home made BBQ sauce.  There was plenty to go around and even a little leftovers.

There were many silent auction items available…
