This year, Friday the 13th falls in October, and not too far away from Halloween. Spooky? Maybe. Let’s look at the infamous superstitions…
Here kitty, kitty
Black cats get a seriously bad rap on this day. And honestly, not just this day, but any day of the year! Let’s remember all of the great black cats, and keep them in mind, like: Sylvester from Looney Tunes, Felix the Cat, Snowball from the Simpsons and even the Cat in the Hat.
Mirror, Mirror on the Wall
If you’re like me, you’ve had your share of broken items in your house. A little accident, and now I’m doomed for 7 years of bad luck? Yeah, right. I remember when I first heard that a piece of gum would take seven years to digest too.
Shoots ‘n Ladders
How many of you have walked under a ladder? And you’re still ok? It’s a miracle! No, it’s not the best decision to do that, but you won’t see any bad luck from it.
Split Salt
Ok, I don’t necessarily “spill” salt, but I do manage to get it everywhere when I’m seasoning my food! I’m still here, and I really don’t feel like throwing it over my shoulder on some nice person only to get yelled at!
Since we’re on the topic of myths, some of the home-buying myths out there are downright scary; especially as a first-time homebuyer! Like:
Expect a 20% down payment.
Find a house you like, then go through the approval process.
30-year mortgage is the best way to go.
Bad credit? Then don’t even think about it.

Are you and your family new to the area or thinking of moving here? Brookings, Volga, Aurora, and other surrounding areas in South Dakota are perfect places to consider making your permanent residence. Not to mention, when you come home at the end of the day, you’re coming home to your home.
