Halloween and pumpkins. They are the perfect pairing for fall. As such, we decided to try a little contest last year to see who could paint a great looking pumpkin. It went over so well, we decided we had to do it again this year and we had a great turnout.
Hosted by everyone here at Brookings Home Team and Century 21, we handed out pumpkins for kids to paint. We know everyone might have their own tradition for picking out pumpkins and carving them with their family. We wanted to find a way to add some extra fun to those traditions by leaving the pumpkin whole and painting it or decorating it in a fun way, much like we do to ourselves before walking door to door collecting candy. And with this contest, you can add another great looking pumpkin to your home for the holiday.
For our competition, there were groups of competition and for each group, there were prizes for the top three pumpkin painters.
1st Place - A $25 gift card from Dacotah Bank
2nd Place - A ticket for the Splash Zone Waterpark
3rd Place - A $5 Pizza Ranch gift card from Brookings Home Team
There were so many good pumpkins turned in this year. Some were super creative with characters and themes while others were abstract and great creative work by the kiddos. Most of all, it looked like there was a lot of fun going on while these were painted and put together. There was even a pirate pumpkin with a printout of my face on it! Lucky for me, I was exempt from having to judge these amazing creations. I pulled in some star power from three Brookings professionals.
This year's judging panel included State Representative Tim Reed, Mayor Keith Corbett and Dacotah Bank Mortgage Lender Andrew Jallo. And, boy, they didn't have an easy job in front of them. Nevertheless, we had to have three winners in each category. So, they put their brains to work and made their selections. They were looking for creativity, color, themes and overall design. Without further ado, here are the winners:
Group #1
1st Place - Kaylin Gjernes
2nd Place - Elin Cowan
3rd Place - Baily Gjernes
Group #2
1st Place - Scarlet Schumacher
2nd Place - Ari Tevelde
3rd Place - Ben Caugherty
Really, with beautifully painted pumpkins to decorate our homes, we're all winners in this contest. Reminder, don't forget to come back and pick up your pumpkins! They are yours to keep and we hope they made your Halloween a little extra fun this year.
We hope everyone enjoys the festivities next week and remember to stay safe while trick or treating!
