The 1st annual Lynn Mennis Memorial Beanbag tournament seemed to be a success.  We are still waiting on numbers, but there were over 25 registered teams for the bean bag tournament.  1st place winners walked home with $300 and a set of the specially designed boards by Good Vinyl Graphics in Brookings.

The Brookings Home Team even sponsored a board and was part of the silent auction won by Lynn's dad, Darrell.

A midrange bathroom remodel is a solid investment, according to the "Remodeling Impact Report" from the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. A bath remodel with a national median cost of $30,000 will recover about 50% of those costs when it’s time to sell your home.

Regardless of payback potential, you'll probably be glad you went ahead and updated your bathroom. Homeowners polled for the "Report" gave their bathroom renovation a Joy Score of 9.6 -- a rating based on those who said

The only thing more exciting than shopping for your first house is the day you move into it. And in your eagerness to get to that day, there are a bunch of opportunities to botch the shopping.

Here are some #facepalm moments and the house-hunting tips you'll need to avoid them.

"I Saw the House Online. It's Perfect — Let's Make an Offer Before It's Gone!"

Buying a house sight unseen?!? Whoa. Online photos are a fun sneak peek — and that's all.

Before you plan marriage after the house equivalent of swiping right, consider this:

Think you're not ready to unlock home ownership yet? That the financial hurdles are too high? You may be short-changing yourself. Many of the things renters believe about home-buying are myths.

Myth: I Have to Put Down 20%. :(

Saving 20% of the price of a home in many places isn't just a challenge; it's a roadblock. And it's not a must-do. Roughly 60% of home buyers put down less than 6%.

  • FHA Loans: The Federal Housing Association (FHA) is an old friend to first-time buyers and others who are ready to become homeowners with less than a 20% down payment. If you qualify, you may be able to get a loan with as little as 3.5% down.
